On this auspicious American holiday — so rustic and appropriate! — I am giving away a set of Laura Hile’s books. Mercy’s Embrace is quite my favorite of the Austen sequels, for obvious reasons. I cherish the hope that one day Ms Hile will write an expanded series with yours truly as the Lead.
The Groundhog Day Giveaway contest is open to my American admirers and will conclude at midnight on February 15, 2012.
To enter, post a comment below, mentioning both your “spambot-proof” email address (myaddress AT whatever.com) and one of the following:
• Your favorite Marrying Well for Fun and Profit column from this list
• A topic you’d like to see me cover in a future post
• An etiquette question you’d like me to answer
Because I adore gossip, ambitious entrants — those who are desperate to win these books — can gain an advantage. If you Tweet or link to my Groundhog Day Giveaway on Facebook, I will count each mention as an additional entry. Please let me know if you do, and I’ll pass the information to my daughter, Anne, who is handling everything.
I wish you the best of luck and, as always, remain
Cordially yours in the upward climb,
Sir Walter Elliot

I suppose that I am no longer eligible to win the books because I am a writer on this site : ( , but I am entering just in case I am wrong. I often am. I read your books on Kindle and LOVED them, but autographed copies would be special to me. I would be interested in hearing Sir Walter’s advice to young men who are meeting the families of the young ladies in whom they are interested. What impresses Sir Walter in a prospective suitor?
My e-mail is robin_0123 AT hotmail.com
Who says you’re not eligible, girl?
Not me! You’re IN !!
Hot dog! I’m tweeting this again!
Robin, you are a promotional fiend! Between Twitter and FB (general and Austen Authors), I’ve counted six (6) additional entries!
What impresses Sir Walter in a prospective suitor?
We know it’s not a confident, ambitious man!
… with a wry sense of humor!
As to that, why, Sir Walter has none!
I really loved your “Nerd Flirtation” column. It was hilarious! I am new to your blog so I will have to go back and read some of the older posts. Thanks for the giveaway!

Hi Danielle. Thanks for stopping by. We’re a fun bunch — we whine a lot — but you’re welcome anytime!
Thanks very much for the information imparted in your column entitled Caffeine!.
And more thanks for hosting this event.
I have subscribed by email to receive future posts.
carlscott(at)prodigy(dot)net(dot)mx
You’re welcome, Carl. And since you subscribed, Sir Walter will count that as an additional entry.
Kudos for not being off by the girly pink of the first book. I’ve heard from many guys who enjoyed this series…even if they had to make a brown paper cover to preserve male dignity. (My own son did this. Ha!)
I like your “humble brag” because I really do need to know what to wear on Jay Leno!
What a great giveaway! I’ve just resently heard of these books and would love to read them! Thanks!
canapple7(at)cox(dot)net
Ha, Candy, I need to know what to wear to Jay Leno too!
I guess I could wear any old thing, even something from the thrift store, on a skinny body. Dang.
Just found this blog recently and would love to win the books. They’ve been on my list for awhile and Persuasion has always been my favorite Austen novel!
The column I’ve enjoyed most so far is the one on Shyness. Lots of good one-liners in there.
Thanks for the chance!

Hi Aja,
So lovely to see you here. Sir Walter sometimes says things I can’t say on the job (I teach middle school). As a fictional character, he’s a hoot. My favorite line from that article: “Leave your mind alone.” Ha! He certainly does.
I absolutely adored Anthony Head as Sir Walter in the RPJ/Sally Hawkins version of Persuasion. I can visualize him uttering so many of the phrases you write in your delightful Marrying Well articles. I would really like to see him address the issue of keeping a husband happy and at home. After all, Mary definitely needs the advice and, hopefully, so will Anne and Elizabeth (if they can only be persuaded to take his prior admonishments to heart).

Yay! I can’t find any of these books anywhere. Not even my library
Hi Carly! Nice to see you here. Hope you win!
Thanks for the giveaway! I am looking forward to read these and add them to my TBR list!
I love the caffeine post. I love coffee and cannot function in the morning without it. Nice to know it helps with Alzheimer’s. Too bad I have not seen any signs of it helping with “mommy brain!”

Oh, I just tweeted this post too!
J_Leatherberry
I just tweeted! @CandyM037
My favorites are Thanksgetting and Fauxpology … insincerity, the sincerest form of self-flattery .. and sooooo Walter Eliot
I wish I twittered or tweeted so I could have extra entries, but I have a much quieter internet footprint … in fact, prior to becoming obsessed with JAFF, I barely emailed!
So I’ll just put my hopes on my one little entry … oh, well …. I can still retrench …
I thought the ‘Fauxpology’ was hilarious and brightened my day in the midst of the holiday madness.
Thanks for the wonderful giveaway opportunity.

I shared on FB as Sally Michele Shaw. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwp.me%2Fpwr8a-1zX&t=It%27s+Groundhog+Day.++Time+for+a+3-Book+Giveaway!
I quite enjoyed “Fauxpology” – it played a prominent factor in a recent “apology”
Thank you for the giveaway opportunity – and I am looking forward to Book 4!

Who/what chooses who wins? Is it just random?
Well, Carly, it’s a low-tech method. I write everyone’s name on slips of paper (one for each entry here, and one for each Tweet or Facebook mention). I put them into a hat, shake it, and draw one out. Ta-da!
Answers to Sir Walter’s questions don’t make any difference. I’m curious about which topics readers enjoy.
Thanks for stopping by.
I hope I win the books! They have been on my TBR list, but my library doesn’t have them.
My husband (who teaches high school) got a huge kick out of the Manolescent, and I loved the Nerd Flirtation post.

I still love the beauty advice column where he advances the case for Gowlands. Still makes my skin crawl just thinking of it (tee hee!~) Can’t seem to give you ideas for what to do in future as I keep thinking he MUST be running out of ideas/advice. Then again, we are talking about Sir Walter here…. HMMMMM!
I can’t remember a thing these days. The address for me is jengjoy (AT) aol (DOT) com
Does this count as two entries? ha ha!
I would like to hear Sir Walter’s views on unwed daughters … both his own, and others – that are after him .. lol
everyone seems to be adding their address and I didn’t before so I will now … cpnclprashe(at)yahoo
Ok. That makes sense. It’s just the matter of posting and getting the word out and all that

I just realized that the end of the contest is 9 days away. I think it’s longer then the last one. I’m not sure though…..
I would like to know from whom Sir Walter and William learned their methods of dealing with wives – so that I can push them on a cliff.
Only a couple more days till the contest ends! I wonder who will win!
I really am most interesting in Sir Walter’s methods to being at ease socially.
Love Sir Walter’s blogs. He seems to be more savvy than I’ve given him credit for.
(lucyparker.1004@gmail.com)
Terry J, I agree with you! I’m interest in Sir Walter’s methods to being at ease socially!
Will there be any other contests after this one?
It ends very soon! Wow I can’t believe this one is almost over!
Thanks for the chance to win!!
These have been on my TBR list for
awhile, but life has gotten in the way…
would love to win…
Anything Sir Walter says is too much fun…but definitely
taken with a grain of salt..
