“I fancy Jane Austen was stronger, sharper and shrewder than Charlotte Bronte; I am quite certain she was stronger, sharper and shrewder than George Eliot. She could do one thing neither of them could do: she could coolly and sensibly describe a man.”
- G.K. Chesterton, Education: Or the Mistake About the Child
I couldn’t agree more. Have a great Wednesday.
Take care–Susan Kaye

Chesterton was a man ahead of his time. He recognized that Austen was a woman ahead of her time.
While I don’t have a problem with Bronte’s portrayal of men, I know that for myself, Austen’s just ring more clear and true.
