Ha! I saw a similar picture on Facebook. It’s a pic of the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. The caption is something like, “A true chick flick – two women fighting over shoes.”

I used to have several dozen pairs of shoes, but I have had to leave the shoe obsession with my daughters now. Comfort takes precedence over style for me now.

A few years ago I got a really bad, almost lost my foot, infection from a blister by wearing fancy shoes that rubbed me the wrong way. Now my obsession is purses. Love. My. Purses.

For me it has always been about comfort. I used to walk in to a shoe store and ask if they had Ladies size 12. In return I was given barely contained smiles as they pointed out the joke pair of heels in the window, or flat refusals. I wore a lot of men’s shoes in size 9 1/2 cluncky, which really did not go with formal wear, or anything feminine at all.
Now I can easily pick up shoes in my size, but on my most recent shoe store visit, I was on the prowl for those clunckly men’s workboots, managing to just look longingly at a pair of memory foam insoled dressy shoes. Maybe if they had been in another color, I could have justified the purchase, but I already have black.

I wish I could like shoes! But like my sole sister, Annette, I have never been able to shop in a “normal” shoe store. (What is it with sales clerks and the smirking thing?) I blame the size 12 feet!

Nordstrom carries my size, but — kinda spendy. How thankful I am for their outlet store.

Even so, I’d almost rather have a root canal than shop for shoes. 😦

“Sole” sister. I just love it, Laura. While we’re on this subject, does anyone know why your feet grow 1 to 1.5 sizes during pregnancy?

The doctor told me that a woman’s tendons stretch when she is pregnant, thereby increasing her shoe size. My hands grew, too, though. Interesting that I did not grow at all during my pregnancy when I was 26. I went up a shoe size and 2 ring sizes when I was pregnant at 35.

Pregnant at 35 is a whole different deal, isn’t it? Been there, done that.

It didn’t help that Ben was 10 lb. 3 oz.

Why, oh why, did I choose natural childbirth each time? Because I was stupid. And it was the fashion. Nobody does that anymore.

That explains it then. Size 7.5 to 8.5. Of course, it probably doesn’t help that I would have to lose 24 pounds to be at my delivery day weight. Sheesh!
