Happy Birthday

A gift card for Amazon! What a surprise!

Anne Elliot Wentworth (I am assuming Anne married Captain Wentworth) is 225 today. I’ve searched and haven’t found the “official” gift for such a number but I’m sure it would be a precious metal or gemstone of great value. Or, it is more likely esteem, affection, respect, and admiration. In other words, things that make gift-giving simple because you can’t quantify them and also don’t have to put down money to buy.

Frederick said my surprise is in the bedroom!

But let’s say we can give Anne gifts. What do you think the average 225 year-old female character from a classic novel would want? Being fictional, the physical is not an issue so plastic surgery, Botox, lifts, peels, and augmentations can all be taken care of with a few keystrokes if she’d like. If I were 225, I’d like a nice cold beer, but that’s just me.

“How thoughtful, dear, you practically read my mind.”

And if Anne is married to Frederick, what would HE get her for her 225th? Can you imagine that many years of bad birthday presents if he’s one of those husbands with no clue? How many years of ugly sweaters, labor-saving, household appliances, gift certificates to health clubs, nail salons, and Target can one girl take?

Here’s wishing Anne a wonderful 225th birthday. I’d wish her many more but really, how many more do you want at her age?

Take care–Susan Kaye

What a delightful post! I do love Persuasion – and Anne Elliot especially. Happy Birthday Anne! My gift to you is a day of pampering at a luxurious spa – you always put others first, now it is your turn!

Maybe she can finally get someone to take HER into the hot baths in Bath! That paired with a little mani/pedi action, and lunch out at Molland’s. Sounds good to me!

A ride round the streets of Bath in that pretty landaulette—ideal weather, top down, smiles exchanged between husband and wife.

And yet she somehow does not see that her father and sister have just emerged from Molland’s and are standing on the street corner, looking hopeful …

Sadly, there is only room enough for two–Frederick and Anne. “Sorry Father. Sorry Elizabeth,” she smiled and waved.

Happy Birthday, Anne! I would get her some earplugs. 225 years of listening to her family whine would tire even the gentlest of souls.

LOL! That’s a great one, AmyFlo. I’m sure Anne will very much appreciate it so let’s spring for the noise-canceling headphones. 😉

I think she needs an ipod filled with her favorite music. She can drown out the Elliots and chill at the same time. I wonder if that’s why my husband wears his earplugs so much. Hmmmmm . . . . .

I doubt you could hold a candle to the clacking on of Elliots, Dalrymples, and the ancillary chatter of Musgroves.

First download: You’re Still the One by Orleans.
      Once more with feeling:

We’ve been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You’re still the one I want whisperin’ in my ear

You’re still the one — I want to talk to in bed
Still the one — that turns my head
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one

I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it ’til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow

You’re still the one — that makes me laugh
Still the one — that’s my better half
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one

You’re still the one — that makes me strong
Still the one — I want to take along
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one (yes you are)

Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new

You’re still the one — that I love to touch
Still the one — and I can’t get enough
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one

You’re still the one — who can scratch my itch
Still the one — and I wouldn’t switch
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one
You are still the one — that makes me shout
Still the one — that I dream about
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one
You’re still the one, yeah still the one
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one
