Anne Elliot Wentworth (I am assuming Anne married Captain Wentworth) is 225 today. I’ve searched and haven’t found the “official” gift for such a number but I’m sure it would be a precious metal or gemstone of great value. Or, it is more likely esteem, affection, respect, and admiration. In other words, things that make gift-giving simple because you can’t quantify them and also don’t have to put down money to buy.
But let’s say we can give Anne gifts. What do you think the average 225 year-old female character from a classic novel would want? Being fictional, the physical is not an issue so plastic surgery, Botox, lifts, peels, and augmentations can all be taken care of with a few keystrokes if she’d like. If I were 225, I’d like a nice cold beer, but that’s just me.
And if Anne is married to Frederick, what would HE get her for her 225th? Can you imagine that many years of bad birthday presents if he’s one of those husbands with no clue? How many years of ugly sweaters, labor-saving, household appliances, gift certificates to health clubs, nail salons, and Target can one girl take?
Here’s wishing Anne a wonderful 225th birthday. I’d wish her many more but really, how many more do you want at her age?
Take care–Susan Kaye
