Since it’s Talk Like a Pirate Day

I’ve been thinking about those rascals of the open sea. I decided that America had it’s brush with the piratical decades ago when hippies were all the rage.

What’s the difference between pirates and hippies of the ‘06s? Not much.

Both conducted themselves according to an ambiguous and relative moral code, were hygiene-challenged, and took a great deal of pride in being a thorn-in-the-flesh of conventional society.

Hippies were just landlocked pirates without swords and pirates were sea-going hippies minus rock-n-roll.

I’m sure our highly intelligent readership has more observations about these two groups and what traits they may share.

I personally find pirates to be entrepreneurial in spirit. Pretty aggressive in their “marketing” techniques, but more so than the hippies that wove macrame plant hangers and baked brownies.
