Unusual Generosity – The Way

Allow the children to come to Me.

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

One thing that I love about my church is its unusual generosity, and it doesn’t limit that willingness to give only to those who are within our congregation. We go out into our community, our country, and our world to share the love of Christ by showing His love to other people.

Perhaps the best example of the giving spirit of my church is The Way, an annual, church-wide event, in which hundreds of church members join together in unity for a week of common purpose – serving our county by showing God’s love in action. I was privileged to lead a track which traveled to all of the other tracks, and I was blessed each night to see our people working together, using their gifts, talents, abilities, and vocations for God’s glory and to further His kingdom.

Washing cars for God’s glory

Was it exhausting? You bet. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Though no one joined in The Way in order to receive anything, there is no way to outgive God. Those who served others were at least as blessed as those whom they served. Many people said how much they enjoyed that week, but I never heard anyone say, “I wish I had not given up a week of my free time.”

We should not neglect mission work in other states and countries, but there is a mission field in our back yard, too.
